Vanity Plate is a four-piece indie/power pop band from North Dakota playing energetic, punk-influenced songs with a strong DIY spirit. Blending elements of power pop, indie rock, and punk, their music centers on upbeat rhythms, melodic guitars, and straightforward, heartfelt lyrics. It’s a sound shaped by years of playing together and by the community they’re part of.
The band is: Jazmine Schultz on bass and vocals, Zach Schultz on Guitar, Zach Mulholland (Mo) on guitar, and Connor Wentz on drums. With seven releases and more than a decade of original songs, Vanity Plate is as comfortable in a basement as a large stage, delivering big sound and technical musicianship with small-town authenticity.
Vanity Plate has shared bills with bands such as Aye Nako, Big Bite, Control Top, Lung, Noun, Screaming Females, Sheer Mag, Signals Midwest, Swearin, and Terror Pigeon. Their song “Jay Every Day” was performed with the Minot Community Rocks Orchestra in 2024 and was included in Joey on the Air’s Coolest Bands From Each of the 50 States – The North Dakota Episode.
Vanity Plate tours nationally annually and performs locally and regionally whenever possible. Beyond the band, members are active contributors to the North Dakota music community — organizing all-ages events, supporting independent venues, and participating in numerous regional projects.
This past year, the band toured the East Coast and back, passing the time by reviewing underrated candy bars and enjoying the drive. Call it Midwest emo, punk-leaning power pop, or something else entirely — it probably makes the most sense live.
